Polygon

POL, the native coin of Polygon, a sidechain where fees are low enough for payments and consumer apps to run on-chain. POL pays those fees and is staked by the validators who secure the chain. Contracts written for the EVM run on it unchanged. It replaced MATIC one-for-one in 2024, the same token under a new name, and one stake in POL is designed to secure Polygon's other chains as well.
