Pfizer (PFE), one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world, earning from patented prescription medicines and vaccines, among them the Prevnar pneumococcal shots, the blood thinner Eliquis and the Comirnaty COVID-19 vaccine developed with BioNTech. Founded in Brooklyn in 1849, it earned a windfall from COVID vaccine and Paxlovid sales in 2021 and 2022, and spent much of it in 2023 on Seagen, a developer of cancer drugs.
