Oracle (ORCL), the company whose database software runs the back office of much of the corporate world, from banks to airlines to governments, earning from database licences, from the support contracts renewed alongside them, and from renting out data-centre capacity to companies training AI models. Founded in 1977, it grew by buying its way into new markets, taking PeopleSoft, Sun Microsystems and the hospital records company Cerner.
