NEAR, here as Binance-Peg NEAR Protocol, a BEP-20 token issued by Binance on BNB Smart Chain and backed one-to-one by NEAR coins the exchange holds in reserve on the native chain. It carries the price of NEAR into the BNB ecosystem; paying fees on NEAR Protocol and staking to secure it are functions of the native coin only. NEAR Protocol itself is a layer-1 blockchain that splits its work across shards so capacity grows with usage, with accounts that are readable names rather than strings of hex, started by Illia Polosukhin, one of the authors of the Transformer paper that modern AI models are built on.
