Medtronic (MDT), the largest medical device maker in the world, selling pacemakers and defibrillators, insulin pumps, spinal implants and neurostimulators to hospitals and clinics. Revenue comes from those devices and from the consumables and replacement parts each implanted patient keeps needing. It started in a Minneapolis garage in 1949 as a repair shop for hospital equipment and built the first wearable battery-powered pacemaker eight years later.
