Litecoin

LTC, the native coin of Litecoin, a payments chain that Charlie Lee forked from Bitcoin's code and launched in October 2011, one of the oldest chains still running. It is what transfers move and what miners are paid. Mining runs on Scrypt rather than Bitcoin's SHA-256, chosen so ordinary hardware could keep competing, and supply is capped at 84 million coins, four times Bitcoin's limit. Since 2022 LTC also moves through MimbleWimble Extension Blocks, an opt-in privacy layer.
