Bitcoin

BTC, the native coin of Bitcoin, the first blockchain and the one that settles payments directly between people with no bank in between. Supply is capped at 21 million coins in the protocol itself, and nobody has the authority to raise it. New coins go to miners who spend electricity to add blocks, and that reward halves roughly every four years. Bitcoin was released in 2009 by an author writing as Satoshi Nakamoto, who has never been identified.
