Ethereum on Base

ETH, the money of the Ethereum ecosystem and the only gas coin of Base: every transaction here is paid for in ETH, with each fee covering Base's own execution plus the cost of publishing the transaction data to Ethereum. ETH arrives through the canonical bridge, which locks it on Ethereum and credits it on Base, so a balance here is a claim on ETH held on the main chain. Base is an Ethereum layer 2 built on the OP Stack and incubated by Coinbase, open to the public since August 2023.
