Alphabet (GOOGL), the holding company for Google and the world's largest advertising business, earning most of its money from ads placed next to search results and on YouTube, and the rest from Google Cloud and from subscriptions. Android and Chrome are given away because they keep people searching, and Alphabet pays Apple to be the iPhone's default search engine.
